It will not be de fastest entrant, but it might be one of the coolest. Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has announced to enter the 2012 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with an i-MiEV Prototype. The car is based on the normal all-electric i-MiEV model but will feature a special body.

The legendary competition is an annual automobile and motorcycle event which includes a race to the 4,300 meter summit of Pikes Peak in Colorado. Hiroshi Masuoka, a two times Dakar Rally winner, has the great honor to drive the electric prototype through the challenging course. The i-MiEV Prototype will use the same EV components as the current production i-MiEV. Mitsubishi will use the data obtained through its participation in the event to enhance the durability and reliability of pure EVs and plug-in hybrid EVs which it will be bringing to market in the near future.
