Boston Celtics managing partner Wyc Grousbeck and fellow owners in the NBA franchise have invested $21 million into Formula E Holdings, promotors of the fully-electric motorsports championship that starts in September 2014.

Grousbeck told The Associated Press shortly before the deal closed this week that the group will call on its “deep network of NBA and NFL owners” to help the sport succeed in the United States.

The series can already count on two strong American teams as Indycar-outfits Dragon Racing and Andretti Autosport signed up. The races will be broadcasted in America on Fox Sports.
