With Monaco, London and Berlin the FIA Formula E Championship has three major events in Europe during the conclusion of its first season. The fully-electric racing series has attracted interests from other cities too, like the Danish capital of Copenhagen. By a letter of intend, Pia Allerslev, Mayor of Cultur and Leisure, has confirmed its strong interest in Formula E.

Copenhagen named itself the ‘European Green Capital’ and therefore an innovative and eco-friendly motorsports series would fit perfectly. The metropolis appears to be the Scandinavian hub for intercontinental and European flights, has built the youngest metro system in Europe, has a growing accommodation capacity and offers wide streets suitable for racing.

“Add to this the special atmosphere of Copenhagen, the capital of one of the oldest kingdoms in the world. All periods of our 1,000 year long history are reflected in our streets, squares and buildings and will make a beautiful scenery for the Formula E Championship”, Allerslev writes to Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag.

“In choosing Copenhagen as one of the host cities for the FIA Formula E Championship in 2014, I have no doubt that we will be able to serve you and the attendees to every one’s satisfaction.”

However funding has not been allocated, but will be addressed at a later stage. Not sure how Formula E responded on this letter, but the city hasn’t been announced as ‘Candidate City’. Click here for Formula E’s full 2014 – 2015 calendar.
