Oriol Servia has revealed that he is part of the Dragon Racing Formula E Team. The 39-year old Spanish Indycar driver was announced in January that he became part of the Formula E Drivers’ Club, showing explicit interests in the series and being a likely driver during the inaugural fully-electric championship season.
Servia, a Los Angeles citizen, became a well known driver in the United States after he pursued his dreams while driving in the Champ Car World Series and Indycar Series. According to MundoDeportivo, he was asked by Formula E Holdings CEO Alejandro Agag to find potential US based teams to become part of Formula E.
Initially two teams were selected to run the first full Formula E season: Andretti Autosport and Dragon Racing. Apparently Servia and Dragon Racing boss Jay Penske were already good friends for many years and it seems that Servia will take control of the team and perhaps will race as well. “Nothing has been decided yet whether I will run or not. There is still plenty of time and decision will follow.” The team has already acquired a powerful sponsor, McAfee.
Servia also joined Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing for, initially, four races of the 2014 Indycar Series season. If he would race a full season, he won’t have to worry about his Formula E assignment as the both calendars don’t conflict. The first Formula E race will take place in September in Beijing.
