Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima returns to the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb competition with a further improved electric vehicle. The Japanese racer faces the uphill challenge in Colorado, USA, on behalf of the Association for the Promotion of Electric Vehicles (APEV) with its Monster Sport E-Runner prototype.
The ‘race to the clouds’ is the second oldest motor sports race in America and a long-standing tradition in Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak Region. First competed in 1916 and this year marks the 91st running. Tajima won last year’s edition in the electric class with a time of 9:46.530 minutes.
“For this year’s racing vehicle ‘2014 Monster Sport E-RUNNER Pikes Peak Special’ is based on last year’s machine with further improved performance. We will aim for the second victory with Pikes Peak legend Nobuhiro Tajima as a driver. We will also have CHAdeMO rapid charging station on site to charge the vehicle batteries safely and speedily, simultaneously appealing to the world the great technology born and developed in Japan,” says Tomoyuki Ishikura of Team APEV.
Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in Colorado, USA, will be held from June 22nd through 29th, 2014. Not all competitors of the electric division are known yet.
