Válerie Plante, the new Mayor of Montreal, has cancelled the double header Formula E finale that was scheduled to take place in the end of July 2018.

After taking over from Denis Coderre, Plante said that the costs for hosting the event are too high. An alternative was being looked at. First it was proposed to move Formula E to Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, but renovation work has prevented that. Another location in the city seemed too difficult to realise.

The initial announced calendar for season 4 was already altered when the event in Sao Paulo was postponed due to issues within the local government. Punta del Este will take its place.
